Chaos at Howe Community Park Injures Multiple Gunshot Victims in the Arden-Arcade Area of Sacramento

Sacramento County deputies are probing a shooting incident that took place Saturday evening at Howe Community Park in the Arden-Arcade area at the time law enforcement were breaking up a large unauthorized gathering of an estimated several hundred individuals.

Prior to the Shooting

Law enforcement were first dispatched to the park on Howe Avenue around 6:30 Saturday evening after learning of individuals who may have had concealed firearms. Not long after, another report was received about a reported physical confrontation taking place at the location.

Aerial units was sent to survey the area but could not confirm any ongoing fight. Even so, it was apparent that an enormous crowd had gathered without authorization without permission.

The Dispersal and Shooting

Officers worked to disperse the crowd by encircling the gathering and using their vehicle PA systems directing those gathered to disperse at once. Roughly 15 minutes were allowed for people to comply.

It was during this dispersal that between 20 and 25 rounds were discharged. The shots sparked chaos as hundreds ran. Officers swiftly started searching for victims.

Four Victims Hospitalized

Altogether, four people were located with gunshot injuries. The shooting victims — made up of one woman and three men each apparently in their early to late twenties — were rushed to hospitals in the Sacramento area. Medical teams noted that two had critical injury classifications, one person had injuries of a moderate nature, and one had injuries classified as minor. Fortunately, each of the four victims was stable.

Sacramento fire crews assisted at the location and assisted with medical triage the injured at the scene.

Crime Scene Evidence

The bulk of the shooting was believed to have unfolded near the Cottage Way corridor near the Home Depot at the 2200 Howe Avenue block. CSI personnel recovered further ballistic evidence in the form of shell casings scattered along Cottage Way. These discoveries pointed to that a second shooter had been aiming south from the Cottage Way area targeting the Home Depot store. The store itself was secured under a brief lockdown during the incident. CSI units alongside detectives kept processing evidence throughout the night.

Suspect Vehicle Located

Information relayed via scanner audio indicated that a Kia had been stopped in the Solano County area. Four suspects were taken into custody. Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies were heading to pick up the four detainees to bring the suspects back for investigation. Footage analyzed by investigators revealed that there were two gunmen.
